I Was Webflow's #1 Partner in Singapore. Here's What I Learned.

I've been building on Webflow since it was a niche tool that clients had never heard of. I was ranked #1 Premium Partner in Singapore and Malaysia while running a studio based in Batam — not Raffles Place, not Tanjong Pagar. Batam.

Most agency founders don't talk about how they got there. They post the milestone and move on. I want to be more honest than that, because the things I learned are genuinely useful if you're building a web agency or a creative practice anywhere in Southeast Asia.

Key Takeaways

  • Platform focus compounds — being excellent at one platform beats being mediocre at five
  • Location is less of a barrier than you think if your quality of work is genuinely exceptional
  • The agency business model is being disrupted by AI, and the studios that embrace it are building structural advantages
  • Your personal brand is not separate from your business brand — it is your business brand, especially early on
  • The clients worth working with judge you by outcomes, not by your office address

Focus Was the Whole Strategy

The most common mistake I see web agencies make is trying to do too much. WordPress and Webflow and Shopify and React and mobile apps and SEO and paid ads. The pitch is "full service". The reality is that you're mediocre at everything.

We focused on Webflow. Only Webflow. Every project made us sharper. Every edge case we solved became institutional knowledge we could apply to the next project faster. By the time we were doing our 50th Webflow build, we had solutions for problems that competitors were still discovering for the first time.

The ranking came from this. Not from marketing spend or network connections or being in the right part of Singapore. From delivering more Webflow projects with better outcomes than anyone else in the region.

Batam Was an Advantage, Not a Limitation

The conventional wisdom is that you need to be in Singapore to serve Singapore clients at the premium end of the market. I disagree, and have the receipts to prove it.

Operating from Batam meant lower overhead, which meant we could price our work based on value rather than covering CBD office costs. It also meant we were a leaner team — fewer layers, faster decisions, higher quality control. Singapore clients care about outcomes. When the outcomes are better, the location becomes irrelevant.

What Batam couldn't substitute: being physically present for important client meetings in Singapore, which we did when it mattered. But day-to-day project work is remote by default in 2026. That stopped being a disadvantage years ago.

The AI Shift Is Real and It Changes Everything

The most significant thing that's happened in the last 12 months isn't any design trend or platform update. It's AI workflow integration — specifically, Webflow MCP with Claude.

We're now doing content operations in hours that used to take days. Bulk CMS updates, SEO audits, migration workflows, canvas element reviews — all through plain English prompts against our live Webflow projects. The agencies that adopt this early are building a compounding productivity advantage over every agency that's still doing it manually.

The studios that will struggle are the ones treating AI as a threat to resist rather than a tool to deploy. Being early on MCP has already changed the economics of our studio. I expect this gap to widen significantly over the next 24 months.

Your Personal Brand Is the Business

Chris Do talks about this constantly and he's right: in the creative industry, especially for a boutique agency, the founder's personal brand and the business brand are the same thing. Clients hire you because they believe in your judgment and your track record, not because of your company name.

The investment in building a public presence — this blog, LinkedIn content, tutorials, case studies — is not a marketing expense separate from the work. It is the work. Every article that demonstrates genuine expertise is a proof of credibility that no advertising budget can buy.

If you're building an agency in Southeast Asia and you're not investing in your personal brand, you're leaving your most valuable asset underdeveloped.

The next chapter for Carrot Cake Studio is being the face of AI-native Webflow development in Singapore and the region. That's the bet we're making. If you want to build something with us, get in touch.
